1. Who we are

Camilo Hernandez ("we", "us", "our") operates the Attic Greek mobile application (the "App") available on iOS. Our contact email is support@atticgreek.com and our website is atticgreek.com.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, where it is stored, and what rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Data we collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide and improve the App:

We do not collect sensitive personal data such as health information, financial details, or precise geolocation. We do not collect data from children under 13.

3. How we use your data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

Our legal basis for processing personal data is (a) performance of a contract when you use the App under our Terms of Service, and (b) legitimate interests in improving our service through anonymised analytics.

4. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in the European Union. We use Supabase as our database infrastructure, hosted in the eu-north-1 region (Stockholm, Sweden). Supabase is compliant with GDPR and processes data under a Data Processing Agreement. No data is transferred outside the European Economic Area except where covered by an appropriate legal mechanism such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (which you can do directly within the App), all personal data associated with your account is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

The Attic Greek mobile app does not use cookies. If you access our website atticgreek.com, minimal analytics may be used to measure visitor counts; no cross-site tracking or advertising cookies are deployed.

9. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including encrypted data transmission (TLS) and access controls limiting who can view personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but commit to promptly notifying affected users in the event of a data breach as required by GDPR.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via the App or by email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing or using the Attic Greek application (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Camilo Hernandez ("we", "us", "our").

2. The App and service

Attic Greek provides a structured course in Ancient Greek (Attic Greek, with introductory exposure to Homeric and Koine Greek), comprising lessons, quizzes, vocabulary flashcards, and authentic readings, guided by a Socrates tutor character in the Socratic tradition.

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any part of the App at any time. We will endeavour to give reasonable notice of significant changes.

3. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use the App; if you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has consented to these Terms on your behalf.

4. Subscription and free trial

Free trial. We offer a 3-day free trial with full access to all App features. The trial begins on the date you first download and open the App. No charge is made during the trial period.

Subscription plans. After the trial, continued access requires a paid subscription:

Billing. All subscription billing is processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not store or process your payment information directly. By subscribing, you also agree to Apple's payment terms.

Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

5. Cancellation and refunds

Cancellation. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until that date.

Trial cancellation. To avoid being charged, cancel before the 3-day free trial period ends.

Refunds. Because billing is managed by Apple, refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple in accordance with its refund policy. We do not have the ability to issue refunds directly but will cooperate with any legitimate refund request directed to us through the App Store.

6. Content and intellectual property

All content within the App — including lesson texts, quiz questions, flashcard content, UI design, the Socrates tutor character, and course structure — is owned by or licensed to Camilo Hernandez and is protected by copyright and intellectual property law.

Authentic ancient texts included in the readings section are in the public domain. Modern annotations and commentary provided within the App are owned by Camilo Hernandez.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal, non-commercial educational purposes only.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to: attempt to reverse-engineer or extract the App's content; share your account credentials; use the App in any way that violates applicable law; or attempt to circumvent subscription requirements through technical means.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the App will be error-free or uninterrupted.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Camilo Hernandez shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Greece. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Greece.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes are notified constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Getting started

Do I need prior knowledge of Greek to use the app? ▾
No prior knowledge is needed — or assumed. The course begins with the Greek alphabet and the sounds of each letter before moving into grammar. If you have never seen a Greek letter, this is exactly where to start.
Which dialect of Ancient Greek does the app teach? ▾
The primary focus is Attic Greek — the dialect of Plato, Aristotle, Thucydides and the Athenian dramatists. The 30 authentic readings also include passages in Homeric Greek (Homer) and Koine Greek (the New Testament), annotated with notes on how each differs from Attic.
How long does the free trial last? ▾
The free trial lasts 3 days from the moment you first open the app. During the trial you have full access to all 210 lessons, quizzes, flashcards and readings. No credit card is required to start, but you will be asked to choose a subscription plan before the trial begins; if you cancel before 3 days are up, you will not be charged.

How do I cancel my subscription? ▾
Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Attic Greek → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Can I get a refund? ▾
Because billing is handled by Apple, refund requests must be submitted through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com. We will cooperate fully with any legitimate request.
Why does the app cost in US dollars? I'm in Europe. ▾
Prices are set in USD as the reference currency, but the App Store will display the equivalent price in your local currency (EUR, GBP, etc.) when you subscribe. The conversion is handled by Apple based on its regional pricing policies.
Does my subscription renew automatically? ▾
Yes. Monthly subscriptions renew each month and annual subscriptions renew each year, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You will receive a reminder from Apple before the renewal.

Account & Data

How do I delete my account? ▾
You can delete your account directly within the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will permanently erase all your personal data from our servers within 30 days. Account deletion does not automatically cancel a subscription — please cancel through your App Store settings separately.
Where is my data stored? ▾
Your data is stored in the European Union. We use Supabase hosted in the eu-north-1 region (Stockholm, Sweden). We do not sell your data to any third parties. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Will my progress sync across devices? ▾
Yes. Your progress, streaks, XP and flashcard mastery data are all stored in the cloud and will sync automatically when you sign into your Attic Greek account on any device.

How are the 210 lessons structured? ▾
The curriculum progresses from the Greek alphabet through elementary morphology (nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns) into intermediate syntax (participles, infinitives, subjunctive and optative moods) and finally advanced constructions (indirect statement, conditions, purpose clauses) — the grammar necessary to read authentic Homer and Plato without assistance.
What texts are included in the 45 authentic readings? ▾
Readings include fifteen passages from Homer's Odyssey (plus the Iliad), Plato (Apology, Republic, Symposium, Phaedo, Phaedrus, Meno), Aristotle (Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, Metaphysics, Physics), Thucydides, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Marcus Aurelius, and the famous inscription at Delphi. All readings are annotated with vocabulary aids and grammatical commentary.
Is this app suitable for university Classics students? ▾
Yes. The grammar curriculum follows a rigorous scholarly sequence comparable to standard university Classics textbooks. Many students use the app to supplement university coursework, review grammar between seminars, or maintain progress during holidays.
I'm studying Koine Greek for seminary / biblical studies. Is this useful? ▾
Attic and Koine Greek share the same foundational grammar, vocabulary, and script. A strong Attic foundation makes Koine significantly easier. The app includes Koine readings from the New Testament annotated with notes on how Koine differs from Attic. Many theology and seminary students have found the app valuable as a first step before specialised Koine resources.
